About Kadriye's family
Hosting in Scarborough since 2021

We've been a homestay since 2004 and we've hosted students from 27 different countries; it's been a pleasure throughout all our years. Our family includes myself and my husband. We also have a son who attends McMaster university. We started this experience as a way for us to learn about different cultures and for a way to help students feel like they have a safe, clean, and ultimately fun environment to grow as individuals. Our students can be as involved with the house as they please; they can request special dishes from any cuisine. We all eat dinners together so that students get to interact with each other and the family. Our motto is "welcome to your home far from home" and we believe that statement fully.

Meals

Breakfast 		Host prepares breakfast for student
For weekdays: normally American/Western style cuisine involving eggs (omelettes, fried eggs, or hard boiled), sausages/hotdogs, fruits, yogurts, cereals, pancakes, and/or toasted bread (with homemade jams, hazelnut spreads, peanut butter or cheese). We also have coffee/tea, juices and milk. On weekends we do brunch instead which involves many cuisines. Some common meals are pancakes, Spanish potato omelettes and other gourmet omelettes, bruschetta, pastries, and waffles. Please note that we are always willing to try new recipes requested from our students and they're always welcome to cook with us.

Lunch 		Host prepares lunch for student
Weekdays we offer sandwiches or leftovers from last night's dinner (whichever students prefer). For sandwiches, we have a variety such as tuna, turkey, ham, chicken, cheese, peanut butter or anything a student requests. Weekends we do brunch which is described above. Please note that if students wish to go out for the weekends, we can prepare to-go meals.

Dinner 		Host prepares dinner for student
This is by far the most diverse menu of all the meals in the day. We are able to do a multitude of cuisines such as South American, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Turkish, Western, Greek, Caribbean, Indian, Arabic, Korean, and Russian. Our meals are always homemade daily. They are multi course meals with salad, soup, main dish and often times dessert too. Some of our main course dishes include, butter chicken, biriyani, kofte, sushi, fried rice, jerk chicken, baked/fried salmon, BBQ meats and vegetables, bulgogi, shish kebab, beef stew, lasagna, dumplings, many different pastries, steak, hamburgers, pizza, and many soups (French onion, miso, mushroom, broccoli, etc). Some of our desserts are cheese/chocolate cake, rice pudding, kadaif, banana/pumpkin bread, pies (apple, plum, blueberry, strawberry, etc), baklava, tiramisu, souffle, muffins, creme caramel, and ice cream. Again, students may always request certain meals! We can also accommodate vegetarian or vegan diets.

  • Only accept student younger than 22 years old
  • No smoking inside the house

House rules
    House rules will be included in the contract after booking
    Although there is no curfew, students must telephone/text us if they will not attend dinner that night so we know how much to prepare.
    The washrooms are cleaned by the family, but it is expected that the students treat washrooms with respect by keeping them as clean as they found them.
    Laundry machine use is only permitted on the weekends. Students may do laundry by themselves or they can ask for our help.
    Students are not permitted to have any sleepover friends.
