About Lisa's family
Hosting in Toronto since 2017

Hi there! We can't wait to welcome you home in Canada! Do you want to live close to where all the action is in Toronto? Seconds from Bloor Street, Koreatown, the subway, parks, schools, universities, colleges, pools, rinks, ice cream, restaurants, coffee shops, museums, art galleries, pubs, churches ... everything you'd want to explore during your stay in Toronto! All within walking distance! If this interests you, then this is the place for you! Few, if any, homestays are as close as we are to the best parts of Toronto! We have one bedroom with 2 single beds available ... please continue to read for further details. You will love our home! It's clean, bright, and organized - and close to everything!! (Did I mention that already? ;-) ) We have 1 room with 2 beds available. Lots of storage space! Room has a wall to wall closet - so you get the length of 1/2 the room of closet space, 6 drawers of a dresser, plus a night table next to each bed. Desk space is available in the room. The Bathroom has lots of space - a huge tub and separate shower. Here are the options: i. Single occupancy - 18 or over $1500 per month: includes breakfasts and lunches (self-made) and dinners Monday to Thursday (made by host) *You are on your own for dinner Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - under 18: $1600 per month: includes all breakfasts and lunches (self-made) and all dinners ... dinners Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be made in advance and require student to reheat - bathroom will be private and only yours to use Advantages: You have your own space. Disadvantages: While you are here to learn and study English you are locked away in your own room and can easily chat and talk to friends back home or who speak your own language. This does not help you learn English! Also when you have your own room you alone are responsible for keeping it clean and tidy :-) ii. Double occupancy - 18 and over: $950 per month: includes breakfasts and lunches (self-made) and dinners Monday to Thursday (made by host) *You are on your own for dinner Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - under 18: $1050 per month: includes all breakfasts and lunches (self-made) and all dinners ... dinners Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be made in advance and require student to reheat - share the 4 piece bath with your roommate and again lots of space - huge tub and separate shower. Advantages: Your room mate will not speak the same language as you! This is a good thing when you are learning English! While you are here, immerse yourself completely in Canadian culture and English as much as possible every day with your roommate and with us! A roommate is also someone you can go out and do things with when your classmates aren't available or nearby - and there are lots of things to get out and do around here!! (Many students will find people they know from their country and are therefore tempted to speak their own language. They don't learn English very quickly!) Both you and your roommate are responsible for keeping your room and bathroom clean and tidy! :-) Disadvantages: Just like in a college dorm, you start by sharing a room with a stranger...but she won't be a stranger for long! Some lasting friendships result when you get to know someone you live with really well! So this really isn't a disadvantage - just another advantage to sharing a room with someone! :-) Meals: If over 18: - continental breakfast 7 days a week - bagged lunch Monday to Friday and light make-it-yourself lunch on weekends - dinner 4 days a week Monday to Thursday If under 18: - continental breakfasts 7 days a week - bagged lunch Monday to Friday and light make-it-yourself lunch on weekends - dinner 4 days a week Monday to Thursday plus warm-it-up dinners Friday, Saturday and Sunday - 11 pm curfew Meals are nutritious. Vegetarian / dairy / gluten free can be accommodated. If you'd like organic, please add an additional $100 per month. Homestay also includes - laundry: 1 load of laundry per week - towels bedding - unlimited internet I have 2 daughters aged 12 and 15, a super excited little dog named Cookie and a little bunny named Comet. We are all really looking forward to meeting you!!

Regulations

Host Preferences
  • Only accept female students
  • Only accept students between 18-40 years old
  • I don't accept smokers

House rules
House rules will be included in the contract after booking
    1. No smoking, drinking, or drugs anywhere inside or outside the property ever.
    2. No guests to visit or sleep over.
    3. Wash hands when arrive home (so we all stay healthy!)
    4. Take off your shoes in the home.
    5. Clean up after yourself. Put your things away. Keep your bedroom and bathroom neat and tidy. Wash, dry, and put away the dishes you use. (Not all dishes can go in the dishwasher.) Empty the garbage in your bedroom and bathroom weekly (which means taking it to the garbage bins outside).
    6. Let me know by 4 pm if you want dinner Monday to Thursday evenings...dinner is between 6:30 and 7 pm.
    7. I will do what I can to accommodate your food preferences while you are here with us. But please understand that not everything will be the same as home. Be willing to try new foods and tastes. Our meals are healthy and contain mostly meat or fish and vegetables and fruit.
    8. First and last month's rent is required to hold the room for a student. Please note that 1 month notice is needed when wanting to move out. No exceptions to this unless stated specifically in the homestay contract.
    9. Have fun and join in our activities: we are looking for students who want to be part of our family!

Please note that it is likely our home and city will be very different from your own home and city. If you have never been to Canada before, you may experience some culture shock and homesickness at the beginning because nothing seems familiar. It's good to expect this, talk about it, and hang out with us and new friends to keep yourself busy. Hiding away in your room at the beginning and spending a lot of time talking to people back home can make it worse. Within a few weeks our home and city will begin to feel more like your (temporary) home as you adjust and begin to enjoy your time here. This is all part of experiencing life in a new country and culture. We are here to help you through this process!
