Self-Introduction:
    Self-Introduction:

We are not merely a family that provides 3 meals and a place to sleep. We realize the main reason students from other countries move into a Canadian home is to improve their English. At dinner time we try to encourage discussions with everyone involved. We realize in the beginning the students are sometimes shy or just not confident with their abilities to speak English. We are patient people and allow everyone to embrace their opportunities to talk when they're comfortable.
Another reason we believe that we are a good choice, is that we are actually fun! We, in the past have asked our students to join us when it comes to family outings. We have taken the students skating, swimming, tobogganing, camping and sleeping in a tent, having campfires, bowling, bike riding, movies and as well to our cottage. We even have taught a couple of students how to build and igloo ( a small house made of snow and ice). We once during the warmer weather had a water war/fight. The point is, we try to make the students feel that they are part of our family. We believe that the students that participate in these enjoyable experiences not only discover new things, but are also engaging in conversations while having fun.
In the 4 years that we were homestay parents, we have one student (Yichao) that has stayed with us for the whole 3 years. Also, he convinced us to allow his friend, Yifan, to move in with us as well. Yifan stayed with us for 2 years but now goes to university.
We live in a quiet neighborhood known as Doctor’s row. We are 15 min walk to Scarborough General Hospital. For the sport enthusiast three doors down have a biking / walking path. Approx 8-10 min bus ride to Scarborough Town Centre which will provide all your shopping needs. From our home to the bus stop is a 6 min walk. Movie theatre is 10 min bus ride and plenty of restaurants in close proximity.
Lastly, we believe that school, studying comes first. We want to believe that my wife and I contributed in many ways to improving the students English and helped in other ways that help integrate them into Canadian Society.
