About Jillian's family
Hosting in Toronto since 2017

Hello! This is a family home where I have lived for over 30 years. The house is over 100 years old and sturdy. The neighbourhood is one of the best in Toronto. We are within walking distance of a beautiful beach. There is a long boardwalk that I enjoy walking along any time of the day or year. It is a pretty safe area in the city. Tourists enjoy this area, especially in the summer for the beach, parks, and shopping! There are many festivals during the summer months including a large Jazz festival where they close down the street for the evening events too. We have Toronto's Easter Parade in this neighbourhood. There are many good restaurants and shopping areas within walking distance. The Toronto transit buses run 24 hours here and it is a short distance to the subway line. There is an older movie theatre very close that runs movies shortly after they first hit the big theatres, so it's a lot cheaper. There are yoga and dance studios, gyms and recreation centres in the neighbourhood. I am a mature actor and writer. I have enjoyed having guests in my house from all over the world. People find it very homelike and comfortable. I enjoy hearing about your interests, home life and school experiences. I have one daughter, Sarah, and two grandchildren, Michael who is 14 years old (he is living with me at this time), and Isabella who is 5 years old and visits often. I am very proud of both grandchildren who I believe are quite intelligent and kind people. I will do my best to help you feel comfortable while you are here. I know the city well and can help you find where you need to go and how to get there. My mother is now 92 years old and lives in a long term care home. I visit her regularly too. I enjoy getting together with my friends, sometimes having people over for a meal or game of cards or to sing. My work life is varied and can be very busy sometimes. I also do a lot of work from home. So, my schedule is not regular. I like to cook, swim, do needlecrafts, go for walks, dance, sing, play music, write, read, and more! I enjoy learning about the customs, and foods from around the world. I love to travel as well. I was born in Newfoundland, which is on the east coast of Canada (a large island in the Atlantic ocean). I enjoy sharing the culture and music from Newfoundland as well. The closest college to this location is the Centennial College on Carlaw. I have had students stay here who also attend, Ryerson, OCAD (Ontario College of Art and Design), and University of Toronto. The average public transport time to downtown is about 30 minutes.

House rules
House rules will be included in the contract after booking
There are some rules. I like for guests to leave their outdoor shoes and boots at the front door. So, it's good to have slippers to wear in the house. I am sensitive or allergic to some scents, so it's best not to use perfume or anything scented. Any loud noise should be restricted to before 11pm. You do your own laundry, which is more economical if it is done in the evenings (after 7pm) or on weekends, if you are using my machines. There is also a good laundromat within the block if you prefer. We all clean up after ourselves, I don't expect you to do my dishes and I don't expect to do yours (I do not have a dishwasher). You can prepare your own meals. There will be room in cupboards for your food and we share the fridge. I have an electric stove, a microwave, a toaster oven, blender, vegetable and rice steamer. We share common areas, like the kitchen, living room, dining room and bathrooms, so we need to respect each other's schedules and keep things tidy. I will provide linens and towels, if you wish. I can explain how the garbage needs to be separated and collected when you are here. There are small vacuum cleaners and a broom for each room so that you can keep your own room tidy.
